The Social Media Frontline - Thursday 16th July 10am-11.30am

£75.00

A hands on introduction to handling online negativity and protecting your team

Most online issues don’t start as crises. They start as a comment, a misunderstanding, a complaint, or a moment that gets handled under pressure without a clear plan in place.

And that’s where things can begin to escalate.

This session is a practical introduction to the thinking, tools and decision-making behind The Social Media Frontline programme - helping you feel more prepared before situations reach crisis point.

Why this session exists

In 2016, after witnessing a terror attack in Berlin, I did a number of news interviews as a journalist which led to a barrage of harmful online trolling.

At the time, there was very little understanding of how to support people dealing with that kind of public hostility.

Since then, through my work in journalism, communications and crisis management, I’ve seen countless individuals, teams, and organisations experience the same challenges.

Yet there are still no real protocols in place to protect people, both practically and mentally. People are expected to deal with risk, hostility and reputational pressure in real time — often without any framework to guide them.

This session exists to change that.

What we’ll cover:

This is a practical, interactive session designed to give you clarity and direction. We’ll explore:

  • How online negativity typically escalates (and why it catches people off guard)

  • The difference between noise, risk and genuine reputational threat

  • Simple ways to assess how serious a situation is

  • How to think before responding under pressure

  • How to protect yourself and your team from burnout and online harm

The focus is simple: Having a real way to think when things get difficult.

Who this is for

This is for you if you:

  • Manage social media for a charity, CIC, faith organisation, or community group

  • Are responsible for online communication or engagement

  • Lead a team or organisation with a public-facing presence

  • Have experienced online negativity or want to be better prepared for it

  • Want to understand how to respond without escalating situations

  • Want to protect both your reputation and your wellbeing

You do not need to be in crisis for this to be useful. In fact, the earlier you think about it, the better.

What you’ll leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of how online negativity escalates

  • A simple framework for assessing risk in real time

  • Practical ways to respond without escalating situations

  • A starting point for your own internal approach

  • Greater awareness of reputational and wellbeing risks

  • More confidence in when to act, and when not to

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday 16th July 2026

  • Time: 10:00AM – 11:30 AM GMT

  • Format: Online (link sent after purchase)

Investment: £75 per person

Why attend live?

Alongside the training and Q&A, you’ll also have space to connect with others working across charities, CICs, faith organisations and community groups.

This includes discussion, shared experiences and informal peer learning throughout the session.
